“Rīgas satiksme” starts to get a new batch of “Škoda” low floor trams

“Rīgas satiksme” starts to gradually receive new “Škoda” low-floor trams. Three low-floor trams have been delivered so far – one four-section tram and two three-section tram. It is planned that this summer Riga will receive all 20 new low-floor trams. The new trams will start carrying passengers on routes No. 1 and 11 after passing all safety tests.

All new low-floor trams are equipped with air conditioning systems, monitors, video surveillance cameras, passenger-counting systems adjusted to the needs of the electronic payment system, as well as a kit of spare parts which are necessary for tram maintenance.

We remind that in 2016 a contract was signed with „Škoda Transportation” on the delivery of 20 new low-floor trams, including 15 three-section and 5 four-section trams. The trams must be adapted for passengers with special needs and restricted moving capacities. They shall be also suitable for safe operation in the existing infrastructure of Riga urban public transport. Their warranty time is three years and service time – 30 years.

“Rīgas satiksme” serves eight tram routes and carries 2.8 million passengers per month on the average. The company runs a fleet of more than 170 trams of different types, including 26 low-floor trams, which carry passengers on routes No. 1 and 11.
